In order for a new IEC code, there are some documents that you need to furnish. Like any other government application, these documents will help to justify your identity as an individual or a private limited company to get the IEC code without much hassle. In simple terms, IEC is the short form of the Import Export Code that is required for companies or individuals to start an import and export business in India. This license code is provided by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India. In order to apply for this code, there are certain regulations that need to be followed and furnishing the right kind of documents is one of them.

If you thinking about starting an export import business within India, you need to apply for a new IEC code certification. The import export code is a 10 digit number that you would need to carry out the business. The government of India has set down certain processes and regulations that applicants need to follow. So, let us have an idea of the documents that you need with your application form. You first need to download the IEC application form online from the website of the DGFT. The application form should be ANF 2A. Alternatively, you can also apply for the same online now.

What are the Documents required for IE Code License?


Current Bank Account Details


Self-attested copy of the PAN (permanent account number ) card


Banker’s Certificate


Two copies of the passport size photograph of the applicant, that is duly attested by the banker of the applicant


Covering letter on the letterhead of the applicant’s company to request for the issue of new IEC Code Number

All these documents along with two copies of the application form need to be submitted with an application fee of Rs. 250. If you wish to apply online, you need to upload the scanned copies of all these documents and make an electronic payment for the application fee to the DGFT.

In case of offline application, you need to create a demand draft for Rs.250/- that is payable to the Regional Office of DGFT. The certificate and receipt of the demand draft along with the copies of all the prescribed documents need to be submitted in person to the nearest DGFT office.

You also need to attach a self-addressed envelope along with Rs.25/- postal stamp for delivery of the IEC certificate through registered post or challan/DD of Rs.100/- for speed post. The physical application should reach the DGFT office within 15 days of the online application of the form.
